May 2026 Meeting Annoucement – Local Primary Candidates

Hello Kay County Republicans!

We are now less than one month away from the June Primary election!  Please plan to join us for our next monthly meeting on Thursday, May 28th at 7pm at Pioneer Technology Center in Ponca City.  Since this will be our final meeting before the election, several local candidates will attend to introduce themselves and why they are running. If time allows, we will take a few questions and you can always visit with them before and after the meeting.  All the candidates for the Judge, County Commissioner and House District 37 races have been invited.  Those that have confirmed their attendance are: Spencer Grace, Scott Loftis, Marion Harris, Dustin Schickram, and Brian Hobbs.  This will be a great opportunity to meet all of these candidates (if you haven’t already) and become a more informed voter for June 16th!

Additionally, former State Representative Charles Key will the featured guest speaker.  He will be presenting on State Question 840 that has been approved for signature collection.  SQ840 is an effort to promote a more fair and representative state legislative process by guaranteeing each legislator a hearing and public vote for up to 3 of their bills, since this currently does not always occur.  Charles draws on his personal experience for insight into how our legislature operates and how they can better represent the people of Oklahoma.  There will be an opportunity to sign the petition to get State Question 840 on the ballot.

I asked both County Commissioner candidates who agreed to attend, to send me a brief description of their background or why they are running.  Here is what they sent:

Marion Harris

“My name is Marion Harris:  I’m running for Kay County Commissioner District 1.  I have owned and operated a business for 24 years.  I have 13 years of administrative experience as Fire Chief.   I see this as an opportunity to make a positive impact for our community.  My primary focus as commissioner will be keeping our roads safe and in excellent shape.”

Dustin Schickram:

“I would like to take a moment to introduce myself and share a little about who I am.  My wife, Beth, and I have been married for 28 years, and together we have raised four sons: Dylan, Spencer, Boone, and Colt. I was born and raised in District 1 growing up on my family’s farm, which instilled in me the values of hard work and dedication from an early age.  For 15 years, I had the honor of serving as President of the Kildare School Board. That experience has given me valuable insight into leadership and the political responsibilities that come with serving our community–experience I believe will serve me well as County Commissioner for District 1.  I have also worked at Mertz for 28 years, primarily in the engineering department.  My work has focused on design and problem-solving, skills that I believe are essential when addressing the challenges our county faces.  Above all, I believe in living life with integrity, honesty, and loyalty.  I would truly appreciate your support and your vote.”

Sample ballots are now available at https://okvoterportal.okelections.gov/.  My ballot will be three pages long, with 13 races and State Question 832 (Vote No!!!)  Please look yours up and do some research on the candidates and what they stand for so that you will be an informed voter.  One place to start is the OKGOP.com/certified list of candidates.  It is designed to weed out the democrats that are just running as Republicans to get elected.  In order to be considered for that list, they must take a platform survey and those are available for review on the website.  There will be voter guides put out by various groups, but I haven’t seen those yet.

Last week, the Kay County Republican County Committee unanimously voted to endorse Jadan Terrazas in the June 16th Senate District 10 primary.  Check out the press release and please share it out!  There will be a Ponca Politics forum between Jadan and Bill Coleman at noon this Friday (the 22nd) at Pioneer Tech.  I would encourage everyone to attend and support Jadan.  Also, Terry Thompson will be hosting a forum for both SD10 primary candidates in Tonkawa on May 30th.  If you are able, please consider knocking doors or donating to his campaign.  It is rare that we get the opportunity for such good representation and WE can be the difference in making it happen!  If you don’t already have Jadan’s contact info, just let me know and I will get you in touch.

The County Committee also voted to endorse former County Chairman Brian Hobbs for House District 38.  He served in the Army and continues to defend our freedoms at home.  It would be great to have him representing the biggest part of the Kay County in the State House.  He is running in a crowded primary for an open seat, so I’m sure he would appreciate if you are able to help him with that race.

As mentioned previously, State Question 832 will be on the June ballot.  If it gets passed, it will be VERY detrimental to Oklahoma and especially those with lower incomes.  There is a huge amount of money being spent to get it passed.  It makes you wonder why.  For more information check out: https://ocpathink.org/post/independent-journalism/research-shows-sq-832-could-cut-worker-benefits We still have a few of the “Vote No” signs that we got from the state party.  If you have a high(er) traffic location and would like a sign, let me know!

On June 27th, the OKGOP will have a celebration event in OKC for America’s 250th Birthday.  It will be a powerful afternoon honoring our nation’s freedom, heritage, and God’s providence in America’s story.  This event will feature patriotic music, freedom groups from across Oklahoma, Food trucks, free family activities and a keynote address by Congressman Josh Brecheen.  Get your tickets at: https://event.okgop.com/americas250

Join us, next Thursday and get informed and equipped as We the People work to take back our State and our Republic.  While we have been granted a reprieve nationally, we must make good use of it and build up the foundations of liberty from the local level!

We look forward to seeing you!

For Freedom,

Nathan Voelkers
Vice Chairman
Kay County Republican Party
